Ron Santo Dedication Ceremony Before Cubs Game
Ron Santo passed away on Dec. 3rd, and his friends, family, and fans already miss him dearly. During the pregame ceremony on March 10th the Cubs honored Santo, by presenting a plaque in dedication of Ron Santo's life and career with with Cubs organization.
Santo was the Cubs broadcaster for 21 years, and was Hall of Fame caliber (hopefully one day will be included in the Hall) player for the Cubs and finished his career with 1,331 RBI's, 2,254 base hits, 342 home runs, and was a nine time all star.
The dedication occured in front of 7,186 Chicago Cub fans at HoHoKam Park. The Ricketts family and Ron Santo's son was in attendance and accepted the plaque in Ron's honor. Jeff Santo was honored by the presentation. He said that sometimes he gets overwhelmed with mixed emotions. He feels proud to honor him, but his family (and fans) miss him very much.
Cub fans wore #10 hats (Ron Santo's number he wore when he played for the Cubs), and there was #10 painted behind home plate. Fans at HoHoKam Park recieve a #10 sticker, along with a Santo baseball card with a photo of Santo in Spring Training back in 1965.
