2011 Spring Training Invites - Former Major Leagers

Cubs Invite Todd Wellemeyer, Augie Ojeda, and Luis Montanez to Spring Training Camp

With Spring Training opening camp in less that two weeks, several former Cubs have been invited back to compete in Spring Trraining.  Former Cub players that will be competing for jobs will be :
  • Todd Wellemeyer
  • Augie Ojeda
  • Luis Montanez
The Cubs hope to improve on a disappointing 2010 season.  In hopes to improve a struggling bullpen the Cubs signed Kerry Wood to a home town discount.  The Cubs also invited Braden Looper to camp with hopes he can regain his form and once again be a solid Major League pitcher.  Looper saved 28 games or more during the seasons 2003 through 2005. He also won 12 games or more between 2007 to 2009.

The Cubs need some veterans to step up and provide some stability in the bullpen if the Cubs hope to compete with the Cincinnati Reds, Cardinals, and Brewers in a division that looks to be highly competitive.

Pitchers and catchers report to camp on February 13th, and position players return on February 18th. Even though much of the country is currently covered in a blanket of snow, it's almost time to lace up the cleats and start preparing for another MLB season.  For Cub fans, it couldn't come soon enough.
